Not at all ,the plastics are same.
Plastic is a synthetic material. We use plastic widely because of their easily moulded nature and light weight and also it’s durability.
Already we saw a number surrounded by 3 arrows in different kind of plastic materials.
This is called RIC(Resin Identification Code).This code will help consumers, manufacturers and recyclers to sort out easily.
Kinds Of Plastic
There are 7 different kinds of plastics are there.
1.PET or PETE
2.HDPE
3.PVC
4.LDPE
5.PP
6.PS
7.Other Plastics
We’ll discuss one by one ,their uses and their impacts.
1.PET or PETE
This is known as POLYETHYLENE TEREPHTHALATE. This is a widely used one so,it belongs to category 1.
This is a Wrinkle free fiber. This type of plastic is used for food and drink packaging why because it will not allow the oxygen inside to spoil the food & drinks.
This plastic is widely recycled one. This plastic contains CARCINOGEN i.e., Cancer Causing Agent.
Examples : Soda & Water bottles, food containers & Polyester clothing.
2.HDPE
This is known as High-Density Polyethylene. This one also most widely used plastic in the world.Again it is divided into 3 types.
High-Density, Low-Density and Linear Low-Density.
High-Density Polyethylene is very strong and high resistance capability.
The plastic recycled easily.
Examples : Grocery bags, milk cartons, Detergent bottles,toys,buckets,benches, etc.,
If this plastic is exposed to UV Light, it causes Harmonal Imbalances in Humans.
3.PVC
This is known as POLYVINYL CHLORIDE. It’s not a rigid one. It’s flexible.
This plastic is commonly used to make building materials like wires and cables why because it resists electricity passing through it.
Also used in plumbing pats like pipes, some medical applications.
This plastic is a single use plastic and it can’t be recyclable. It’s a dangerous one.
Examples: pipes, wires and cables, oxygen masks, teething rings, credit cards, toys, rain gutters, packaging,film and sheets etc.,
4.LDPE
This is known as LOW DENSITY POLYETHYLENE. This kind of plastic is flexible . It’s safe when compared to others.
You found in cling wraps, bread packing, food items packaging, bubble wraps, garbage covers, grocery bags, shopping bags, frozen food packing, furniture, floor tiles ,trash cans, compost bins, etc.,
5.PP
This is known as POLYPROPYLENE. This one is more durable and good heat resistance capability. It keeps cereals moisture free, dry and fresh.
Examples : tupperware products, straws, bottle caps, disposable diapers, yogurt containers, tape, trays, car parts, brooms, medicine bottles, brushes, battery cases, etc.,
6.PS
This is known as POLYSTYRENE or STYROFOAM. It’s cheap, light weight and widely used one. It’s also dangerous one like PVC.
It affects not only animals, marine species but also human health especially disfunction of reproductive system.
Examples : egg cartons, picnic cutlery, single use coffee cups, single use utensils, license plate frames, light switch frames, thermometers, plastic mouldings, etc.,
7.Other Plastics
Here OTHER means this category is different from above 6 kinds of plastics. It’s a multi-resin combination quietly different from others.
BPA(Bisphenol A), Polycarbonate and LEXAN. Recycle process is difficult.
Examples : sun glasses, sports goggles, baby milk bottles, sippy cups, mobile phones, key boards, mouse, plastic brick toys,etc.,
